The question that’s been passed back and forth, mired in the idea that a certain amount of bitterness is involved, is whether or not the Oscars represents the diversity of the industry it celebrates. Whichever camp you’re in, it’s safe to say that the world’s most popular red carpet has lost nothing in the way of glamour. Suffice it to say that the Oscars luncheon attracted a plethora of beautiful individuals in stunning designer attire.
For those who don’t know, the Oscars luncheon is a kind of warm-up appetiser for fully-fledged fashionistas, actors, directors and the like to elegantly strut their stuff and promote their films. This year the event took place at the plush Beverly Hilton Hotel, replete with a profligate spread befitting the 88th Oscars and the 150-strong guest list, including award nominees Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. Of course there were notable absentees, like Best Actor nominee Michael Fassbender, amongst others. It was also later announced that Sylvester Stallone had joined the list of boycotters out of respect for his Creed co-stars, who were overlooked by the academy.
The Oscars are set to be hosted by Chris Rock on February 28th at the Dolby Theatre auditorium in Los Angeles. Expect a night of showstoppers, fashion faux pas and stunning finery. In the meantime, here are a few of our favourite outfits from the luncheon to sate your appetite:
Jennifer Lawrence cut a chic figure in her smooth all-black trouser suit, complemented by a wide belt to hug her slim waist.
The elegant Swedish beauty, Alicia Vikander, looked particularly gracious in a flowing red skater dress with nude heels.
Finally, we just loved the mousy ‘Carol’ star and former dragon-tattooed detective, Rooney Mara, in a white skater skirt with a touch of faint violet and pink floral detailing.
