This year, at the pristine Microsoft Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, a host of glamorous television actors and actresses amassed on the red carpet, clothed in a variety of stunning outfits. Just looking at these stars, as they made the walk up to the theatre, it was clear that we’re living through a golden age of quality productions inspired by fantastic screenwriting. As far as awards go, there were rumours that The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story would scoop up its fair share, and, of course, it didn’t disappoint. Neither did the likes of Game of Thrones, which has now won more Emmys than any other drama in the history of television. There were also a few surprises, like Sarah Paulson seizing the coveted Outstanding Actress award for her portrayal of steadfast Marcia Clark, who defended the deceased victims, Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, in the O.J. case.
In the end, it was a night of glitzy finery and applauded talent, spurring fashion bloggers the world over to rush back to their keyboards. Of course, that includes The Jewellery Magazine as well, which is why we’ve put our heads together and carefully honed this list of our Five Best Dressed Actors/Actresses (or groups):
Claire Danes channelled the light of the sun through this Haute Couture Schiaparelli Gown. This number flows with gold, textured silk chiffon fabric and conveys a supreme delicacy. On the back of this beautiful dress there is a leaf motif connected with thin straps of organza. Danes completed the outfit with sparkling Forevermark diamonds and a vivid two-stone diamond ring.
Although she wasn’t nominated, Emily Ratajkowski, managed to set fire to the red carpet in this steaming strapless navy silk Zac Posen gown. Ratajkowski wore rings of smoky-blue eyeliner, coloured with shades of aquamarine and navy and accentuated with a bolt of eye shadow. Her sensuous, nude lips stood out against a wash of blush and her whole face was framed by a sleek side-parted ponytail.
The 25-year-old Modern Family beauty Sarah Hyland has been hitting the red carpet since 2010 when her show was nominated for its first emmy. This year, she wore a bodice-and-pants ensemble courtesy of designer, Monique Lhuillier. For jewellery, she slipped on a beautiful yellow gold leaf ring and bold, statement earrings with yellow floral diamonds.
It was clear that Lhuillier paid painstaking attention to detail and involved Hyland in the process –
“Overall, we didn’t want to have too much gold,” Hyland said, “And have the jewelry overpower the dress—we wanted it to all go together.”
Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Millie Bobby Brown have been taking show business by storm since they showed their acting prowess in throwback hit, Stranger Things. When asked to answer the question: “Who are you wearing?” Gaten Matarazzo retorted, with effortless cool: “I went to the place and got this tux.” It was a simple answer, pulled off with help from a faultless chequered vest and matching bowtie, which meant Matarazzo cut a sharp gentleman, regardless of who made it.
Taraji P. Henson was blindingly beautiful in her bright yellow Vera Wang dress. No intricate detail was forgotten for this red carpet stealer, The Empire star also chose an Edie Parker marble clutch to accompany the outfit, with bronze initials emblazoned on the front.
