Since 1965 the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has been curating and keeping works of art. It is now one of the largest art museums in the western United States, boasting a collection of over 130,000 objects, dating from antiquity to the present day. By visiting this institution, one is able to walk the pages of art history, experiencing a web of wonderful cultures, from Asia to Latin America, with everything else in-between. In recent years the museum has continued to grow and improve its international stature, putting sunny Southern California on the map with countless exhibitions, public programs, and ongoing research projects. Situated in Hancock Park, amidst twenty verdant acres of prime Los Angeles real estate, flanked by the ocean and the downtown cityscape, the LACMA campus is a veritable melting pot of different cultures and perspectives. It is, indeed, the beating heart of the artistic community, empowered by an encyclopedic array of art, music, film and educational programs.
Given that the LACMA is such a hub for aspiring creators, it seems almost inevitable that it would draw impeccably dressed celebrities fresh from the upper echelons of hilly Hollywood. We’re talking now about the LACMA Art and Film Gala, which was run this year by Robert Irwin and Kathryn Bigelow on behalf of fashion powerhouse, Gucci – hence the abundance of Gucci dresses displayed by the attendees.
One of our favourite examples of sartorial Gucci style was Demi Moore’s Silk Shantung Cocktail Dress with Red Plissé Sleeves. This sophisticated number is expected to be released as part of the Spring 2017 Collection.
Here’s another gem from the event: curvaceous model and actress Kate Upton – who attended alongside broad-shouldered MLB player Justin Verlander – looking especially stunning in a low-cut Black Gucci Dress with a sweeping Bolero finish and buttoned back.
Finally, who could avert their eyes from Alessandra Ambrosio, stealing the ‘Best Entrance Award’ in a Gucci Pre-fall Lavender Silk-chiffon Layered Dress with an embroidered, floral bodice and straps to match. Hats off to whoever can tell us what item of statement jewellery she’s wearing…?
